LimmudFest New Orleans 2018

In 1855, the New Orleans Jewish community created the first Jewish Children’s Home in the United States. The community's investment in helping at-risk Jewish children has been repaid many times over. Many of the Home's former wards later became leaders of the New Orleans Jewish community, and many of  their descendants are the current leaders of the local community and of many others across the South. Come learn about how the wards of the Home and their descendants have paid it forward: contributing to the Jewish community that helped them. And learn how the Home has evolved over the last 163 years into the Jewish Children’s Regional Service, which helps Jewish families with minor children face some of the same, age-old challenges, such as early parental death, contested divorce, family abandonment, unemployment, illness and disability, and individual problems of development.
